With all of the conversations on pesticides/chemicals, gmo’s and bacteria in recent years around healthy food, we also need to be conscious of what is occurring with our food in the current pandemic environment.
Between the FDA changing the rules on labeling during the coronavirus pandemic (awful decision in my humble opinion especially in the midst of so much stress):
to the cattle farmers (I’m vegan and I respect others decisions) having had the Country of Origin Labeling (COOP) change in 2016 now affecting how beef is being processed and sold:
Removal of Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling Requirements for Beef and Pork Muscle Cuts, Ground Beef, and Ground Pork
Multiple countries of origins of your beef can be in your one package of beef:
Cattle rancher explaining how one package of beef can have origins from multiple countries…
To meat labeling that seems to make sense and truly makes no difference as there is no enforcement…
Perdue chooses a label of ‘Made in the USA’ that legally means nothing….
BOTTOM LINE: Do your best to go local, especially if you are a meat eater, and limit processed foods to the basics of you are concerned of sensitivities as our current environment is encouraging some companies to choose cost savings over labeling to make it through the pandemic financially and we need to be vigilant to ensure our food is healthy for ourselves and our loved ones.
