Integrative Nutrition

What is Integrative Nutrition?

I believe nutrition is key to healing and have both education and experience in a variety of approaches from assisting individuals in moving to plant-based diets to fostering improved digestion through cancer treatments to finding new ways to approach eating for those healing from eating disorders to integrative nutrition to meet athletic requirements.

With 20 years of experience in assisting people in finding nutritional plans that meet their unique goals, I’ve learned that listening to the needs of my clients and considering their situations is critical in developing plans that achieve their goals for healing and wellness. I have no judgment in working with my clients’, I work with Paleo diets, gluten-free vegan/ plant-based diets, those withs specific food allergies to soy, wheat, dairy, nightshades, etc. and those who wish to not be restricted and still feel better (within reason, certain foods may need to be eliminated if there is an inability to process).

I integrate a Whole Foods approach to healing with a focus on optimal digestion, enjoyment of healthy foods, education and ease of transitions.  Often simple changes can make big differences in health and when difficult changes are needed, we can find alternative options that make the transition easier.

Some areas of healing that can benefit from nutritional consultations include:

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Thyroid and Hormone Disorders

Heartburn (also when chronic)

Nausea (also when chronic)

Diarrhea (also when chronic)

Healing of Fatigue and Chronic Illnesses

Allergies (seasonal and other) and food sensitivities

Healing relationships with food

Sample areas I work with client’s unique nutritional needs:

Nutritional support when healing from chronic diseases.

Moving to plant-based diets, including FOK and vegan diets.

Supporting digestive needs when changing diets.

Assisting with diets for emotional stability.

Changing diets after surgery and/or other situations that require lifestyle changes

Release of mental blocks to changing diet (see mind approaches)

Dietary changes to provide optimal energy.

Determination of dietary sensitivities.

Client Testimonial

“I called JenSatya for a consult as I was having challenges digesting anything and my food options had whittled down to a few foods I ate every day.  I had been to over a dozen doctors, nutritionists, etc. and had tried everything they could think of, and nothing improved.  Jen gave me a specific plan including supplements for digesting foods more easily, homeopathics to heal my body, and nutritional guidelines to start with, then over time we shifted to more and more food options.  It took a couple of months, and I started to see real results.  Along the way though, I could feel things changing or I wouldn’t have stuck with it.  Now three months in, I feel like I’m myself again.  While I’m still conscious of certain foods triggering symptoms, it’s very few and my energy is back to normal.  Three words I’d offer for Jen as we worked together – consistency, compassion and integrity.  She walks her talk and always got back to me within the same day if I was struggling.  I never felt misunderstood, I always felt respected and heard, even when I broke down and cried.  She is a professional.  I refer my clients to her now. That says something in by book, I’m a registered nurse.”

***I’m offering highlights of her case and my reasoning on some common areas, rather than the entire case, hoping it’s useful.  JenSatya

When Shelly came to me, the first thing I noticed was a bit of jaundice in her skin.  I read her blood tests and medical scans and I felt like her gall bladder was struggling so one of the first things we did was improve gall bladder functioning through herbs and homeopathic medicine.  I saw her the following week for 15 min and she was already improved so we felt we were on track.  We then started to rebuild the digestion.

She had had a treatment for sinus issues that had lasted through the winter and after three months on antibiotics her symptoms had started to come up.  I felt this was a big part of the issue so as we treated, I watched for any old sinus issues to arise and they did for a couple of weeks, and then passed through.  As we know in homeopathic medicine, when standard medicine has suppressed a symptom instead of curing it it will often arise during treatment as it heals.  Once it did pass, she felt much stronger and we were able to start shifting her foods more.

Three foods we found she was very reactive to – soy, dairy, beans.  As she was starting to go into a bit of perimenopause, this wasn’t unusual in my experience.  These are often foods I see being harder to assimilate when women’s hormones change and the gall bladder is often affected.  After treatment, the bean issue was fine, and she could do cheese in moderation but soy remained a trigger, I believe, because most soy is gmo and also a trigger for hormone imbalances.  I gave her something she could take to remedy the symptoms if she chose to have so, and encouraged her to keep it out of her diet as much as possible.  She agreed to this.

“I worked with Jenifer after a heart attack and subsequent bypass surgery woke me up to my poor dietary habits.  My doctor encouraged some radical dietary changes and after two months of trying to do it myself, I asked my doctor for a referral to someone to help me and he sent me to Jenifer.  This woman is amazing.  Her level of knowledge, keen instinct (she calls it intuition) and patience know no bounds.  Every session propelled me forward, it’s 4 months later, my diet, my life and my belief in what is possible for me in this life have all changed for the better.  I never thought I’d be here, and I wouldn’t be without her guidance and sincere support.  Thank you Jenifer.”
