New Moon in Capricorn — Practice Introduction

This New Moon arrives in Capricorn tomorrow, January 18th, inviting a grounded yet powerful reset.

As the first new moon after the winter solstice, there is a new year energy to this new moon (Vedic perspective) which offers the perfect time to vision out your year ahead with clarity, purpose and empowerment.

Capricorn energy supports commitment, responsibility, action and long-term vision. It asks not just what you desire, but what you are willing to build, step by step, with integrity and self-trust.

Capricorn reminds us that transformation is not only about believing differently, it is also about acting differently. This is an ideal moment to get honest about your ambitions, your patterns of hesitation, and the structures you are ready to create in your life. The energy of this lunation supports clarity, discipline, and courage, especially when it comes to taking responsibility for your next chapter.

This practice is designed to help you access an embodied vision for your future, identify where you are ready to move forward, and gently examine the places where fear may be disguising itself as waiting for a spark of intuition.

Rather than seeking certainty before action, this New Moon invites you to trust your capacity to meet whatever arises as you take your next steps.

Let Capricorn’s steady, pragmatic energy guide you toward choices that honor both your dreams and your willingness to show up for them. What you begin now has the potential to shape the year ahead in meaningful, lasting ways.

New Moon Reflection and Intention-Setting Practice

Find a quiet, comfortable space where you can be uninterrupted. Gather a pad of paper and writing instruments. Take a few slow, grounding breaths. Allow this practice to be a container for honesty, courage, and forward movement.

Use the following prompts to gain clarity on your vision for your year and life ahead.

1. Audacious Vision Prompt

If I were audacious right now with my goals, I would want to see the following transformation in my life:

Write without filtering or minimizing. Let yourself name what you actually want in full expression of your heart’s desire.

2. One-Year Embodiment Prompt

If I fully believed in myself and committed to taking aligned action, one year from now my life would look different. This is how it will look:

Describe this future in detail. Include how you feel in your body, how you spend your time, the quality of your relationships, and even how you think about yourself.

3. Aligned Action Prompt

Three actions I have been waiting on that I can take right now to begin creating the life I truly desire:

Choose three actions that you have been putting off that could help move you forward if you took the actions. An action could be calling someone for information, letting go of something you no longer wish to put effort into or having a conversation that you are concerned about having.

4. Where I Am Holding Myself Back Prompt

The areas/actions where I am stopping myself from moving forward because I am waiting to feel ready, certain, confident, or believing something before taking action are:

List each one clearly.

For each one, ask yourself:

  • Am I waiting because of intuition or because of fear?
  • If this is intuition offering that I wait, delve into why and is this something that I wish to shift?
  • If this is fear, not intuition, what might happen if I took action and trusted myself to deal with the outcomes of my actions? What would it feel like to trust myself to handle whatever unfolds rather than waiting to feel ready first?

Write your answers with compassion and clarity.

5. Conscious Release Prompt

Three things I am letting go of and/or growing out of this year, mentally, physically, emotionally, or within my relationships, are:

For each one:

  • Name what you are releasing
  • Why you are ready to let it go
  • How you will feel and what will change in your inner self and in your life once it is released

Notice what space this release creates.

6. Integration and Commitment

Take a moment to reread what you’ve written. Place a hand over your heart and take a deep breath. Let yourself feel the truth of your intentions and the steadiness of your ability to meet what comes next.

Mantra

This year is MY year to manifest. I trust myself to create the life of my deepest desires while honoring who I am and who I am becoming.
