As an alternative medicine practitioner, I have recently had many conversations with clients about if, when, how and why to be vaccinated and in studying the information on the efficacy of the current vaccinations available in the US, primary the MRNA vaccines (Pfizer/Moderna) I’m concerned by the lack of a clear message on how these work and guidelines post injection. I feel this is putting people at risk as they think they are immune once they get their shot and going out immediately after as there isn’t clear information being provided on how things work. I hope this is helpful.
QUICK OVERVIEW
Think of getting vaccinated as the start of a process of change within your body. It’s a trigger, not a blanket meaning it triggers an immune response, it doesn’t suddenly blanket you with immunity (see my other post about this).
Once you are injected, it takes approximately 2 weeks for EACH injection to ‘take hold’. This means, you aren’t protected for this time as your immune system is shifting and in fact you could be more susceptible to getting covid during this time if you aren’t careful.
Think of it this way, each injection provides information to your immune system and your immune system then starts a process of shifting toward protection that takes time. Your body’s resources are focusing on this during this time so your immune system has less ‘juice’ to focus on other things, like other viruses, etc. so you need to take heed and be careful during this time while your immune system is shifting. Eating healthy foods, getting plenty of rest and limiting exposure along with wearing masks/washing hands etc is all a good idea during this period.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU
Get shot 1: be careful and take good care of yourself for the first two weeks after the shot.
Get shot 2: be careful and take good care of yourself for the first two weeks after the shot.
(*For the Johnson & Johnson vaccine that is only one shot, the medical consensus is to wait two weeks after the one shot.)
More specifically, the first two weeks after each shot IS NOT when you go into restaurants, clubs, etc. You need to be MORE conscious, especially with underlying conditions, during this time period not less.
Hope this is helpful, for those wanting more information here are a few links with more on this topic.
