Did you know the almond milk your drinking likely has very few almonds in it?  In fact there was a lawsuit against Blue Diamond and Silk asserting they only have 2% actual almonds in their milk and it’s misleading to the public.

Most over the counter almond milks are mostly emulsifiers, gums and other ingredients so you are drinking these instead of almonds if you are drinking most of the almond milks out there.

I used to offer to clients some of the popular brands and I’ve seen in recent years they have changed from being filled with almonds to being filled with, well, fillers.

So what to do?

Option 1: you could make your own very easily with either nuts and water (and salt if you wish) or nut butter and water.  Many people don’t realize adding water to any nut butter can make the milk at home much faster.  You can try it with cashew butter, tahini, etc. and see what you think.  Try it with a little non-iodized salt or Himalayan pink salt as it brings out the flavor.

Option 2: you could pick one of the following almond milks which are worthy of the name. (These are not affiliate links, ie. I don’t make money off linking)

My favorite if you can get it: Three Trees organic almond milk made from two ingredients, filtered water and almond milk.

Another option for pre-made almond milk is Malk. Malk almond milk is top of the list. It’s made from organic almond butter, filtered water and Himalayan pink salt.  No lecithin, no emulsifiers, just three ingredients that are frankly how I make it at home if I’m in a rush.  I use organic almond butter, clean water and sometimes salt.
